[#General#]

Funtigo and Piczo are creative sites for storing photos and designing the pages where they are displayed. They provide numerous design functions and quick free-form tools for creating a completely personalized photo webpage.

Piczo markets itself as a social community site geared towards teenagers. Members make their own webpages complete with photos, profiles and space for friends to leave comments. You cannot browse pages, like other social networks such as Myspace, Friendster and Faces, so it is safer for young people. Also, it focuses on internet privacy and safety and offers numerous ways for adults to report inappropriate behavior.

Designing the album pages and the personal homepage is a unique experience. Each element on the page can be changed to the user’s liking. Pages are customized with standard formatting options, like changing text color, size and placement and choosing background designs, and they are customized with more advanced options, such as adding buttons for guests, drag and drop photo arranging, right-click disabling and easy HTML pasting. Guests can view the public pages and leave comments in a guestbook. The design functions are efficient once the symbols are learned. A symbol key is provided through Piczo, but is not displayed if you set up through Funtigo. Experienced users and web-savvy teens will like this site for its easy customization options, but will dislike the small storage capacity and lack of added features. Inexperienced users may be unfamiliar with the web design jargon and ambiguous symbols sprinkled throughout the site, but it is easy to learn just by using it. Overall, the site is a great way to display photos to the public. Storage within each account is limited. Users can create a new account for each event, but they will not be linked.

If you are a digital imaging rookie, you may want to check out the glossary for descriptions of general features found on photo and video sites, and for some insight into basic industry terms.

[#Membership#]

Free membership allows 100 photos to be stored in as many albums as needed. Membership allows full functionality because there is no other level of membership. Each member is provided with a public homepage that can be fully designed.

[#Drawbacks#]
High resolution downloads back to your computer is no longer possible.
Some of the language is too obscure or technical for inexperienced users. For example, the albums that are on the user’s personal page are called “public” on most sites. Funtigo calls these “live,” a term generally used by web developers and other in the industry to distinguish the sites from those still in the design or testing stages.
Some of the terminology is technical or obscure.
The application for uploading multiple photos did not work.
Storage space is limited to 100 photos. There is no way to upgrade without starting another account.
The functions on the site are not as user-friendly as many other sites, but he finished product, i.e. the personal photo page with albums on customized sub-pages, is unique.
There are no photo editing tools
[#Uploading#]
The photo uploader allows up to 10 files to be uploaded at once. The batch uploader did not open.

[#Storage#]
This site is not for backing up large amounts of photos. Free membership only stores 100 photos through Funtigo or 200 photos through Piczo. Most memory cards hold more than that. Neither Funtigo nor Piczo guarantee photos are backed up. High resolution downloads of your photos back to your computer are not available.

[#Sharing#]

Photos are stored via the personal URL. Guests can visit the albums that do not require passwords or give the password to certain friends. Comments are left in a guestbook.

[#Privacy#]

A password can be added to your website. You can also opt to disable high resolution downloads and prevent right-click copying. The comments in the guestbook can be set to require approval before they are posted for the public. Disable guests from ordering prints or gifts with your photos.

[#SiteNavigation#]
Site navigation is fair, but the names of the buttons are not the typical ones found on most photo sites. The menu used to design the pages is excellent, with simple wording and unique items. The pages to which it links are well explained and easy to use.
